Canine Distemper is a widespread, often fatal disease. All dogs should be vaccinated against Distemper starting at 6-9 weeks of age. Canine Adenovirus Type 1 & 2 cause Infectious Hepatitis and Respiratory infection. Hepatitis, caused by Type 1 may cause servere kidney damage or death. Type 2 plays a factor in Kennel Cough. Canine Parainfluenza is another cause of Kennel Cough. It is often a mild respiratory infection in healthy dogs, but can be severe in puppies or debilitated dogs. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection which may lead to permanent kidney damage. It is easily spread to other pets and humans. Several positive cases of leptospirosis have recently been reported in the Grand Island area. Canine Parvovirus infection is a disease of widespread distribution which may cause severe dehydrating diarrhea in dogs of various ages. Parvovirus infection is especially dangerous for puppies, which may result in death.
